Court rules in favour of Fethiye Mınicipality in recreation area dispute
A court has ruled in favour of Fethiye Municipality in a dispute over the new recreation area being developed opposite the Devlet (State) Hospital. A lawsuit filed by Muğla Metropolitan Municipality, seeking to take control of the recreation area, was rejected by the Muğla 1st Administrative Court.

The recreation area will be the largest in the region covering 68 thousand square metres made up of green areas, bicycle paths, coastal promenade, children’s playground, wind and water mills, natural ponds and open-air libraries.

Black Sea whistle language to get own alphabet

The Tourism Faculty of Giresun University has launched a project to create an alphabet for the whistle language used by locals in northern Turkey’s Black Sea region.
The “Kuşdili” (bird language), which is a form of communication by imitating the sounds of birds through whistling, is currently used by the residents of Giresun’s Kuşköy village.
The 500-year old traditional whistle language was included in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List last year.
Tourism Faculty Dean, Dr Musa Genç told Anadolu Agency that the project aims to preserve the cultural heritage for future generations.
Genç said that musicians and linguists of Giresun University will visit the village and create an alphabet from the whistled language.
The dean explained that recordings of the language will be first turned into notes, and then into letters.
“By the end of the project, the whistle language used as a communication tool by locals will become more widespread and even an internationally used language,” Genç said.
The “bird language” is currently used by around 10,000 people and can carry messages as far as 5 kilometres with a maximum frequency of 4,000 decibels.
Experts say that it is an adaptation of the Turkish language, as the whistle language uses the full lexical and syntactic information of vocal Turkish.
Similar whistle languages are also present in Mexico, the Canary Islands, France and Greece.

First ‘pelican census’ to be held in Turkey’s western Bursa province

Turkey will hold its first census of the great white pelicans that annually migrate over the western coast of the country from the 3rd to the 5th of April in Bursa province.
The “Karacabey pelicans census,” hosted by the Bursa Karacabey Municipality in cooperation with the Nature Society, will give insight into the journey of these large birds that migrate over the Uluabat Lake Basin each spring.

Thousands of volunteers will assist in the census, watching the pelican migration with binoculars and telescopes from observation points around the lake.
More than 100 birdwatchers and naturalists are expected to attend the three-day event, some travelling across the country to witness the migration.
Primary school students will also attend the event, which is open to the public and will include educational talks on the importance of protecting the great white pelicans on their difficult annual journey.

The great white pelican, which breeds throughout southeastern Europe, Asia and Africa, is one of the largest pelican species, measuring 140 to 180 cm (55 to 71 in) in length with a pink and yellow bill 29 to 47 cm (11 to 18.5 in) long. It is listed as a species of least concern on the IUCN Red List of Endangered Species.

Turkey to open world’s busiest airport in October
The airport is being built in Istanbul at a cost of more than $12.5 billion, and it is expected to serve around 200 million passengers annually.
Istanbul’s third airport is expected to be the largest airport in the world with a capacity to serve nearly 200 million passengers annually.
The inauguration of the airport is planned on October 29, 2018.
The airport will host up to 3,000 flights landing and departing each day.
Turkey prepres to block VPN traffic

The Turkish government is preparing to block VPN traffic within to country, an official from Information and Communication Technologies Authority said.
Speaking in front of a parliamentary commission, informatics expert Leven Gonenc said that Virtual Private Networks (VPN) are a global problem and currently they are on the test phase of blocking VPN traffic within the country.
According to Gonenc, Turkey took serious measures against the VPNs, and targets to move forward phase to phase.
Gonenc pointed out the complexity of the issue and said, “There is a provision in the law (of communication) about alternative communication methods like VPN. Within this context we warned the ISPs. There are serious measures taken by them and we are testing it”.
