Çalış- after the storm
A massive clean up operation was carried out in Çalış after the storm on Tuesday. Waves crashed onto the promenade, depositing tons of sand and debris and washing away the paving stones in places.
WAW. The calm AFTER the storm. Çalış Beach is now on the prom. Never seen anything like it here., there is one MASSIVE clean up job to be done.

Locals protest against the latest price hike in Göcek Tunnel toll
Locals are protesting against the latest hike in the toll fee at the Göcek tunnel by driving over the mountain.
The toll fee was recently increased from 5.50TL to 7TL for cars and from 8TL to 10TL for larger vehicles.
One local said “The passage through the tunnel was 7 TL. My vehicle does not use this much money by driving over the mountain. I use the old way because it is more economical. This fee should drop. We heard that the second tunnel would be free, but we still have to pay”
The Göcek tunnel was opened in 2006 as part of improvements to the road from Antalya to Muğla and to minimize the amount of traffic driving over the mountain, an accident blackspot.
The second Göcek tunnel was opened in 2018. Initially it was announced that the new tunnel would be toll free. Further announcements by Arif Çobanoğlu, the 13th Regional Director of Highways, stated that the contract signed with the company that operates the existing tunnel is marked as a ‘round trip return fee’.
The original tunnel is currently not in use due to maintenance. As for the ‘round trip return fee’, we’ll have to wait and see.

Major drug route from Europe to Turkey discovered in Izmir
A major drug route from Europe to Turkey was discovered in Izmir on Wednesday.
18 suspects were arrested during the operation that uncovered the drug traffic route. Hakkari Çukurca District Jandarma Commander was amongst those detained.
Over 1 tonne of cannabis skunk and 500 grams of liquid cannabis were seized in the operation. 5 long-barreled automatic weapons, a gun, 100 rounds, 2 shotguns and 58 cartridges were also seized.
The operation was a major blow to drug trafficking from Europe to Izmir.

Sale of $200 million abandoned village of Disney-like castles in Turkey resumes
Turkish officials have issued a permit to resume the sale of more that 700 chateau-style residences in western Turkey.
When the project first began in 2014, its developer, the Sarot Group, hoped the luxury aesthetic would appeal to wealthy foreign buyers.
However, before the project was completed, the construction firm was declared bankrupt in September, leading to a halt of sales, leaving the homes sitting empty at the base of Turkey’s northwestern mountains.
The sale of the villas resumed in January after a permit was issued by the Bankruptcy Directorate.

Turkish government to scrutinize supermarkets for food prices
The government will focus on discrepancies in the prices of goods sold in supermarkets and street markets as part of its efforts to fight inflation, Treasury and Finance Minister Berat Albayrak has said.
In a speech he delivered during an event with businesspeople in the Mediterranean province of Antalya, Albayrak noted that they are keeping a close eye on the prices both in street markets and supermarkets.
“We do not see the prices that we want to see in supermarkets. We will talk to supermarkets. If there is a significant difference in prices between supermarkets and street markets this means supermarkets do not give the support we expect from them. We are looking at how the food chain works in street markets and supermarkets.”
He noted that as part of the efforts in the fight against inflation, the Food Committee convened on January 15th to discuss the pricing structure in wholesale food markets.
Albayrak called on all companies to take more responsibility in the fight against inflation, which he described as a serious problem for the country.
According to the latest official data, food prices increased by 1.08 percent month-on-month in December 2018, bringing the annual inflation in this item to 25 percent. The headline consumer price inflation was 20.3 percent in 2018.
On a monthly basis, fruit and vegetable prices rose by 5.87 percent in December last year, whereas the annual increase was 30.8 percent.
In the New Economic Program, announced in September, the government’s inflation target for 2019 is 15.9 percent. The government forecasts inflation to ease to 9.8 percent next year and further down to 6 percent in 2021.

Fethiyespor lost their match against Şanliurfaspor at Mügla Atatürk Stadium on Saturday. The final score was 1-2.
Fethiyespor remain in 16th position on the league table.
