It was a week of strange weather last week.

Temperatures in Fethiye and area then soared to over 40 degrees for the first time this year.

The TV cameras were out filming people, sitting under trees, cooling off in the sea and paddling to keep cool.

They also took images of the asphalt on a road melting too.

The weather is set to continue for the next week before temperatures fall back to seasonal norms.

Pumpkins

A 74 year old man who lives in a residential home in the Foca area of Fethiye featured in the headlines last week when he welcomed the press to look at his bumper pumpkin that he was growing in the garden of the home.

The elder gardener has been tending the orange squash every day and watching it grow into a super pumpkin.

He said the seed came from his relative who sent it from the USA.

The press had a go at lifting the super squash but said it was too much for one man to lift.

So they estimated that it must be around 200kg.

If it is then that monster will smash the existing record for such a squash in Turkey.

Now that’s a smashing pumpkin.
