Fethiye Times - LOVE-FETHIYE

Every year there are thousands of beach clean ups carried out in locations all over the world.

Some may ask how picking up trash from the beach helps the environment and protects marine life.

The last defense

Beaches are the last defense between land and the sea and if we want to keep our oceans clean, it is vitally important that we look after them.

Tides and wind pick up trash left on the beach and it ends up in the sea. This can be harmful to marine life and studies show that trash and plastic pollution affect 100 million marine mammals every year.

Plastic bags are mistaken for jellyfish and a shiny wrapper can easily be mistaken for a fish

Most people have seen the upsetting video of a sea turtle with the straw stuck in it’s nostril and it’s distress when it was removed. (If you missed it you can watch it in our article about World Ocean’s Day below.)

Or the image of a turtle that grew deformed due to being stuck in a plastic can ring.

Sea Shore Savers – helping our environment

Every year, Sea Shore Savers hit the beach in Çalış to carry out a beach clean and learn about the importance of protecting the environment, the impact rubbish has on our surroundings and the devastating impact it has on Loggerhead Sea Turtles and other marine creatures.

Sea Shore Savers – more than just a beach clean

This year was no exception and, even though it was Easter Sunday, that didn’t deter the group from turning up and ‘doing their bit’

We are all responsible for protecting our environment

We can all play our part in keeping our beaches clean. It’s simple, take your rubbish home with you. And if you see rubbish on the beach, be kind to our marine life and pick it up.

We are all responsible for protecting oır environment and the life it sustains…
